“Now the news that I have a malignancy in my leg is not what I expected to hear. And so the journey begins of consults, tests, plans. But as I drove to South Carolina yesterday in the quiet, all I could think was to praise You, that I know You are sovereign over my life and death and welfare, and that whatever the future holds, I know You’ve got me firmly in Your grasp! I am at peace.
“Kiara (Kia) McCoy was born on March 8th, 1949, in Racine, Wisconsin. She began figure skating at an early age, competing and performing professionally into her early twenties. Nearly four decades after having hung up her skates, she rediscovered her passion at the age of 61. Two years later, in May of 2012, she competed in the International Adult Figure Skating Championships and won first place in her age division. Kia’s love and dedication to Jesus Christ could not only be seen in her passion for figure skating but also [be] read in the twenty-three journals and thousands of note cards—packed with verses, quotes, and thoughts—that she left behind. On July 7th, 2012, Kia was diagnosed ith a rare form of cancer and passed away on March 28th the following year. This book collects the journal entries from Kia’s last year—relating her battle with sarcoma, steadfast love for life, and enduring trust in God’s sovereignty.”
